I’ve been working with entrepreneurs for decades now, and if there’s one pattern I see over and over again, it’s this:
People don’t have a marketing problem. They don’t have an offer problem. They don’t even have a visibility problem.
They have a sales problem.
But here’s the tricky part… most of them don’t realize it.
Instead, they say things like:
“I just need more leads”
“I need better content”
“I need to grow my audience”
And yes, those things matter. But what I often find is that even when they do get in front of people… they don’t convert.
Why?
Because of how they feel about selling.
There’s this deep fear I hear constantly: “I don’t want to sound salesy.” “I don’t want to annoy people.” “I don’t want to come off pushy.”
And I get it. Nobody wants to be that person.
But here’s what I want you to really hear:
If you’re worried about being pushy… you’re probably not even close to being pushy.
In fact, what usually happens is the exact opposite.
You hold back.
You hesitate.
You soften your message so much that people don’t even realize you’re offering something.
You avoid making a clear ask.
And then you end the conversation with something like, “Let me know if you’re interested,” instead of confidently guiding someone to the next step.
That’s not strategy. That’s avoidance.
And I say that with love, because I’ve been there too.
The truth is, selling is not about pushing people into something they don’t want. It’s about helping the right people move forward when they’re already feeling the pull.
If someone has a problem… If they’re actively looking for a solution… If you can genuinely help them…
Then not offering your solution clearly is actually doing them a disservice.
And here’s the other thing most people don’t talk about:
When you avoid sales, you don’t just lose money. You lose impact.
Because the only way you can help more people… is if more people say yes to working with you.
So if you’ve been telling yourself that you just need better marketing, I want you to pause for a second and ask:
“What happens when someone is actually interested?”
Do you lead them confidently? Or do you shrink back and hope they figure it out on their own?
Because that right there… is where your growth lives.
