Running a business can feel like juggling a dozen spinning plates at once. Between client work, marketing, family, health, and personal time—it’s easy to feel like balance is impossible.
But here’s the truth: you can have a thriving business and still have time for yourself and your family. You just need the right priorities, systems, and mindset.
After more than 23 years in business, I’ve learned what truly makes balance possible. Let’s talk about the six keys that help me—and can help you—stay grounded while growing your business.
1. Always Be Marketing
No matter how long you’ve been in business, marketing is your lifeline. Lead generation, follow-up, and sales must always stay front and center.
Even after decades as an entrepreneur, I’m still focused on building visibility and relationships. But here’s the secret—you don’t need to work 20 hours a day to make it happen.
Most of my clients come from speaking engagements, networking events, and referrals—not endless scrolling or posting on social media. So focus on what actually drives results for you, not just what everyone else says you “should” do.
2. Prioritize Self-Care and Family Time
You can’t pour from an empty cup. As entrepreneurs, we often push ourselves too hard, thinking we’ll rest “later.” But burnout doesn’t serve anyone—not you, your clients, or your loved ones.
I’ve learned to schedule my work around my energy, not the other way around. These days, I work best between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., giving myself time to rest, recharge, and take care of my health.
Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s a strategy for sustainable success.
3. Release the Guilt
Let’s be honest—entrepreneurs carry a lot of guilt. We feel bad for not working enough, for taking time off, or for not being “further ahead.”
But guilt doesn’t grow your business—clarity and compassion do.
Give yourself permission to slow down, to say no, and to celebrate what’s already working. You’re doing your best with the energy and resources you have. That’s enough.
4. Hire Help (and Stop DIY-ing Everything)
You can’t balance it all if you’re trying to do it all yourself.
At some point, you have to accept that growth requires delegation. Whether it’s a social media manager, virtual assistant, or bookkeeper—getting help frees up your time for the work that truly moves the needle.
I always say: “You need a Claudine like I do.” Find that person who helps you bring your vision to life so you can focus on what you do best.
5. Manage Your Expectations
Business growth doesn’t happen overnight. Life happens—family emergencies, health issues, travel, or just plain exhaustion.
Instead of getting frustrated, spread out your goals and build in phases. Be realistic about what you can get done each week or month. Progress matters more than perfection.
6. Get Organized
If your digital or physical space is chaotic, your business will feel chaotic too.
Take time to organize your computer files, client folders, and workspace. You’ll think clearer, work faster, and reduce stress.
Remember: an organized business is a balanced business.
